PUTNAM COUNTY, GEORGIA — Family, friends, and communities across Georgia are mourning the tragic deaths of Logan Christopher Deal, 24, and Jakob Hogan Tapley, 25, both of Ellabell, who were killed in a devastating weather-related accident early Thursday morning.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. along Pea Ridge Road near Highway 441 when a large tree suddenly fell onto a moving truck. The impact struck the vehicle with significant force, resulting in catastrophic injuries to two passengers.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash was reported. Officials confirmed that Deal and Tapley, who were seated in the back seat of the truck, were pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
The accident happened in the aftermath of severe thunderstorms that moved through the region overnight. Heavy rainfall had saturated the ground, increasing the risk of fallen trees and hazardous roadway conditions. Parts of Putnam County were also under a tornado warning as storms passed through central Georgia.
Two other occupants of the vehicle were injured in the crash and transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been publicly released.
