PUEBLO, Colo. — The Pueblo community is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Javien Aaron Miller, who was killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 25 near the City Center on-ramp on Thursday morning, June 18.
The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office identified Miller as the victim of the collision, which occurred shortly after 9:40 a.m. along the southbound lanes of I-25. Authorities say the young driver died after his vehicle left the roadway and collided with a parked flatbed trailer on the shoulder of the interstate.
According to the Pueblo Police Department, the incident began when a semi-truck hauling an empty flatbed trailer pulled onto the shoulder near the southbound City Center on-ramp. Investigators said the truck driver stopped after suspecting a possible mechanical problem with the vehicle.
Police reported that both the semi-truck and trailer were completely out of the travel lanes and legally parked on the shoulder while the driver assessed the issue.
Moments later, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix entered southbound I-25 from the City Center on-ramp. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle drifted off the roadway and onto the shoulder, where it struck the rear of the stationary flatbed trailer.
